ROTARY “dEL SOL” BREAKS GROUND ON BOYS TOWN PLAYGROUND
With the large gold caterpillar tractor ready to dig, Rotary Club of Coto de Caza and Rancho Santa Margarita “del Sol” formally broke ground on January 30th with initial grading for a new Boys Town Rotary playground park. Nestled against the Saddleback Mountains, the playground, due for completion on April 25th, has been a much desired vision for the Boys Town organization since locating in Trabuco Canyon. The park will not only serve as a much needed play area for the youths living at Boys Town, but will also provide a area where residents and visiting family members can interact in a neutral, relaxed and supervisor setting.
"I am deeply moved by Rotary del Sol's commitment in helping Boys Town California change the way America cares for children and families. Rotary has a very well established reputation of giving back worldwide and as a Rotarian myself, I am deeply honored by this commitment." stated Boys Town Executive Director, Keith Rhodes, MS.
Now through a campaign, combining fundraising and in-kind support, Boys Town residents of all ages can look forwarding to enjoying the park’s many features. Large contributions from Shulman, Hodges, & Bastian LLP and The Bell Tower Foundation provided the funds to acquire the shade structure for the park. Rotarian Jim Bastian recruited the support of John Harrington, Atkinson Construction, to donate the grading the site in preparation for sprinkler installation, soil prep, and shade structure location. The Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club through General Manager Jim Boberg, evening club Rotarian, is donating the sod for the Boys Town Park. Rotary del Sol also received a Rotary 5320 District Matching Grant to purchase picnic tables to put under the shade structure.
Rotary del Sol members are seeking the help of local Boy Scouts to install the sprinkler system as an Eagle Project. Additionally, approximately $10,000 is still needed to purchase the playground structure for the youngest children at Boys Town as well as soil preparation, permits, and softscape materials.
