Rotary del Sol welcomes Candidate for Assembly 71st District, Jeff Miller.

(October 20, 2008) Rotary del Sol of Rancho Santa Margarita and Coto de Caza welcomed Jeff Miller, candidate for the Assembly’s 71st District, as their guest speaker at their October breakfast meeting. Held at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center, the platform presented an opportunity for members and guests to meet Miller who beat local candidate and strongly supported Rancho Santa Margarita City Councilman Neil Blais in the primary.

Miller opened his presentation with remarks on what he believes Californians can expect in the coming year with the economy and state’s budget being the number one priority. He stated that with sales and property taxes down everyone is affected by the economic crisis with the business community being hit especially hard.

Miller feels that California must stop spending more than it takes in and needs to implement tough spending caps. Hebelieves in tighter state audits across all levels of state government to improve efficiency. He is not in favor of a sales tax increase which would negatively impact our business community.

He will look for ways to improve the economy resulting in increased business growth. Miller supports expanded off-shore drilling producing more energy sources and seeking new revenue sources for the state including possibly selling state surplus property.

Many in attendance were surprised to discover that while Miller currently lives in Corona and serves as its mayor, he grew up in Mission Viejo and attended Foothill High school in Orange County.

Miller is considered the presumptive Assemblyperson since he is running unopposed. He stated that when elected, he would consider opening a field office in South County which would help him stay connected with his Orange County constituents.
