Boys Town Shade Structure Complete!

Not even the rain clouds or light sprinkle of rain could dampen the excitement of Rotary's final construction of installing the shade structure for the Boys Town Rotary park!  After months of delays due to construction permit hoops and hurdles, the shade structure was installed on December 6, 2009.  Final park touches and a formal dedication ceremony are planned for the near future.  Thank you to everyone who helped make this park go from a Boys Town wish list to a Boys Town reality.

ROBERT KISSINGER WINS DISTRICT AWARD

Rotary Del Sol member Robert Kissinger was recently awarded the Leadership Excellence award at the annual District 5320 Awards Ceremony held in Buena Park, California at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel. Robert had been nominated by Rotary Del Sol for one of several awards to be issued by District 5320 at the ceremony and was recognized along with 21 other Rotarians within the District for his outstanding service to Rotary Del Sol and the community at large. While everyone in attendance knew that Robert was going to be recognized as a nominee and recipient of a general award based upon his nomination, the actual winner of the Rotary Leadership Excellence award was not known until it was announced at the event.

Robert appeared quite surprised to learn he had won as he sat at the table along with several other Rotary Del Sol members and his wife Rachel. “To say that I was surprised to hear my name called would be a tremendous understatement,” said Robert. “It was a very humbling moment to say the least.”

Since becoming a member of Rotary Del Sol in 2006, Robert, owner of Canyon Fireside Grille,  has been a mainstay of several community service projects and events. One of Rotary Del Sol’s highest profile service projects consists of the beer and wine garden hosted by Rotary Del Sol in connection with the city of Rancho Santa Margarita’s summer concert series. Rotary Del Sol’s involvement would simply not be possible but for Robert’s participation. Robert was responsible for everything from securing the beverages, to setting up the stand and breaking it down each Sunday and making sure that the beer and wine garden was properly staffed and capable of serving the crowds that attended the concerts. In addition, Robert has been heavily involved in the Boy’s Town park project commenced by Rotary Del Sol about a year and a half ago. Through every step of the process, Robert has been there to provide hands-on labor in connection with the preparation of the lot, the laying of sod and other necessary components to the park.

This is the first time a member of Rotary Del Sol has been nominated for and received a District 5320 award of this kind. “Robert has been a tremendous asset to Rotary Del Sol since the time he first joined. It is truly an honor to have him as part of our club and this award is richly deserved,” said Rotary Del Sol President, Dan Graham. Congratulations Robert! See more photos

Rotary del Sol Recognized At Annual Foundation Dinner

Rotary del Sol President Dan Graham along with Robert and Rachel Kissinger attended the District 5320 Foundation Dinner on Nov. 7 at the Irvine Hilton. The purpose of this event is to acknowledge and recognize the contributions of Rotarians and Rotary Clubs in supporting the Rotary Foundation Funds.
Coto de Caza/RSM del Sol Rotary Club was recognized for attaining the status as a 100% Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member Club. Of the 33,200+ clubs in the world only 566 clubs worldwide achieved this recognition. Rotary del Sol was one of the 2 clubs in District 5320 to be recognized.
Additionally, Rotary del Sol was recognized as one of 8 clubs in District 5320 and 940 clubs worldwide to receive our banner for Every Rotarian, Every Year recognition contributions.   Both of these honors require a minimum of $100 personal contribution each year that our club includes within our dues structure. One of the highlights of the evening was the entertainment provided by keynote speaker, Fritz Coleman, KNBC Channel 4 weather forecaster, and the USC Sirens all-girl a cappella choir.
In 2003, the Rotary Club of Coto de Caza & Rancho Santa Margarita “del Sol” was formed to provide membership opportunities for young men and women professional business leaders who prefer morning meetings. More commonly known as Rotary “del Sol,”this friendly and vibrant club is known for combining valuable community service projects with fun events and social activities. Rotary del Sol meets on Wednesday mornings at 7 am. For more information or to find out how to become a member of Rotary del Sol, please send an email or rotarydelsol@cox.net or visit the Rotary del Sol website, www.rotarydelsol.com

Welcome to Rotary del Sol!

Welcome to Rotary Club of Coto de Caza and Rancho Santa Margarita, "del Sol",often referred to as Rotary del Sol. Rotary del Sol is a chapter affiliate of Rotary International.  Since 1910, Rotary International's motto has been "Service Above Self".

  President Dan Graham

Dan Graham is serving as this year's President of Rotary del Sol and is supported by a Board of Directors who all share in the Rotary's universal commitment of service. In keeping with Rotary International's motto,  Rotary del Solo dedicates its time, effort and outreach to projects and organizations that benefit our local community, as well as the international stage.  Our club priorities are to:

            Promote Community Service

                                     Support Our Troops

                                    Help Local Families

                              Offer International Assistance & Goodwill

And although the fundamentals of Rotary clubs are the same all around the world, each local club has its own distinct personality, character and goals.  Rotary del Sol has a very diverse membership base, who likes to think of itself as a generally younger club and a more fun Rotary Club than the old stereotype. Our club's morning meetings, "del Sol", offers an alternative and compliment to other Rotary clubs who meet in the evening.

Community service projects will continue to be a priority to Rotary del sol in 2009.  The club has started off the year by moving forward on plans to build a new playground for Boys Town located in Trabuco Canyon.  Stay tune for progress on this event.  The club is also making plans to support their annual Corazon project.  This very important project takes the club to Corazon Mexico to build a home for a deserving family.
